Terra Lusa Lovers’ Handkerchiefs Fan

This Terra Lusa producto pattern was inspired by a motif from the “Lenços dos Namorados do Minho.” These “lenços de namorados” are hand-embroidered scarves that symbolize love and passion in Portuguese culture. Fan made of polished cherry wood, with printing on artificial silk fabric. When opened, its dimensions are 43 x 23 cm. It has 24 ribs and comes in a plastic pouch.

The “lenços de namorados,” symbols of a courting ritual, first appeared in the 17th century in noble salons and were later adopted by the women of the people, who gave them their own characteristics. In celebration of love and passion, the “lenços de namorados” or “lenços de pedido” aimed, according to Minho tradition, to win the suitor’s heart. After years of neglect, the “lenços de namorados” resurfaced as an icon of Portuguese culture.

The “Lenços dos Namorados do Minho” are an artisanal product certified by Adere-CERTIFICA, with a Registered Trademark through Geographical Indication belonging to Adere-Minho.
